Through the Grand Canyon: A Whitewater Adventure
Through the Grand Canyon: A Whitewater Adventure is our private whitewater raft trip from January - February 2024. The trip was filled with big rapids and epic views of the Grand Canyon. We enjoyed all of the big rapids: House Rock, Hance, Horn Creek, Granite, Hermit, Crystal, Bedrock, Deubendorf, Upset, and Lava Falls Rapids. We also made enjoyed many amazing hikes at Nankoweap Granaries, Havasu Canyon, Thunder River and Thunder Spring, Blacktail Canyon, Elves Chasm, Redwall Cavern, Deer Creek, and Pumpkin Spring.

I’ve put thousands of miles on Lone Peaks. Tried out the Topos last year. Did about 1200 miles on 2 pairs (I never get that many miles on Altras). I liked the vibram sole on the Topos, but the way that the toe is elevated did not work for me. When standing in the Topos, your toes are arched upward. I went back to Lone Peaks. I should say that I add an extra rock plate to my Lone Peaks for comfort.

VFC isn't private equity, but they're acting like it with the way they've driven Altra into the dirt. What's funny is that VFC has 3 divisions and the division Altra is in the only one that isn't bleeding money, so ofc that's the one they're nickel and diming. Everyone says the same thing about Altra, the durability isn't there. I say they're skimping on materials for sure. I also say they make some lousy design choices, and I'll say the shoes are not actually any wider than any other running shoe. They're really not. Their widest last fits tighter than a NB 2E. and you could always get 4E. even a hoka 2E was just as wide in the toe, and a bit wider in that one area that Altras seem to misfit on every single person I've seen try them, which is the midfoot on the lateral side and going to the pinky toe. That chunk of foot hangs off the edge for basically everyone I've ever seen try an Altra. I haven't tried topo yet but I want to. issue is the only shop that sells them is an hour away from me and I just got several new shoes recently... including an altra..

6:17 : That is the ONLY way to use the wrist strap! (only that you did not flip the loop over to make it fit between palm and grip perfectly...). a) all weight can be put on the pole without squeezing the grip at all. b) safety, like explained. c) open your hands and the poles hang by the straps: use camera, binoculars, take sip of water, pick your nose, whatever. To continue just flip your wrist and continue. d) when hopping over streams etc you can place your palm on the top of the poles for extra reach. I have used trekking poles since 1997, with thousands of miles of X-country skiing at primary school age already it is second nature to me.

I think your suggestions are spot on! I recently was diagnosed with exposure to Lyme disease, and, it seems, not surprisingly because, honestly, I was not aware of the risk in my yard and garden and was doing nothing to protect myself. After being diagnosed, though, and being currently on a course of antibiotics, I have become very fearful and have not spent time in my yard and garden for two weeks. Being so fearful really annoys me, and I have been looking for commonsense answers to allay my fears. I bought some permethrin but am reluctant to use it, as I have two indoor pet cats. This post gives me confidence that by taking the right precautions, and then making a complete check afterwards, I can get back to working safely in the yard and garden if I am vigilant. Thank you very much!
